A year ago, demand for fuel-efficientt vehicles had sent Honda to a recorde month of salesat 167,997y vehicles. That represents a drop of 41 percent from ayear ago, when pricesx at the pump were higher and the automobilee industry hadn’t yet hit crisis mode. Honda’s saleas in May, taking into account one fewer selling day last fell39 percent.
Leading the decline in monthlt sales for May wasthe company’s flagship which saw a 42 percenrt drop in sales at 88,875 Its luxury Acura division saw salees fall 36 percent to 9,469 vehicles. Honda sales in the firsg five months of the year fell 34 percenytto 430,358 vehicles, compared with 655,819 a year ago. That accountd for a 34 percent drop in Hond a salesat 387,556 vehicles and a 35 percengt decline in Acura sales at 42,802.
